NARRATIVE TEXT : THE GENERIC STRUCTURE AND THE EXAMPLE

The purpose of the text is to amuse or to entertain the reader with a story.

Types of this unit are:

- fable

- fairy tales.

- legend.

- myth, etc.

The Generic structure of the text are:

1. Orientation : introducing the characters of the story, the time and the place, the story happen (who/what, when and where)

2. Complication : a series of events in which the main character attempts to solve the problem.

3. Resolution : the ending of the story containing the problem solution.

4. Re- orientation : the conclusion.

Example :

The tittle : WHY DO THE MOON AND THE SUN NEVER APPEAR TOGETHER?

Orientation : Long, long ago, the Sun and the Moon lived happily together in the sky. They always appear together during the day and during the night.

Complication :One day, the Sun shone brightly so that it almost burned the Moon. The sunlight hurt the Moon's eyes very much. This made the Moon blind.

Complication : The Moon left the Sun although the Sun had asked an apology to the Moon.

Complication : The Sun loved the Moon very much, so he chased her. He chased and chased through the years and centuries but never caught the Moon until now.

Resolution : That's why the Sun shines during the day and at night the Moon appears. They will never unite again.

Mr. Pancake Semarang - Indonesia

a week ago, we went to a restaurant and cafe Mr. Pancake in Semarang.
when we came, There are only a few motorcycles and 2 cars in the parking lot.  
we thought,the place is not open yet, but then the waiter opened the door and greeted us.
"Welcome to Mr. Pancake Resto and Cafe ... please come in."


We get inside and find a comfortable seat.
We felt like at home because of the interior.
There is a display of bookcase just like at home.


after we were comfortably seated, the waiter gave us the menus.
there are several menus that seem tasty.
we chose the Double Decker and Pan cake with vanilla ice cream on it.
and for drink we chose mineral water and Ice Lemon Tea.


We did not wait so long, about 15 minutes, our order has been completed and we can enjoy.
The double decker is yummy but unfortunately it is still fishy, I almost vomited when I eat the flesh of fish, but when it is mixed with the pancake and the vegetables, the fishy taste is reduced. while the regular pan cake with Vanilla ice cream is pretty good.

Now, we are talking about pricing, it may be too expensive for the people of Semarang.
  No wonder that the place was deserted when we arrived even it is the lunch hour.
for the Double Decker's, the price is Rp 28.000++
for regular cake pan with Vanilla Ice cream's price is Rp 26.000++
Aqua mineral water for the smallest bottles, the price is Rp 6.000
I don't remember for sure  the price of Lemon Ice Tea, but it's above Rp 10,000++

It already becomes my habit when dining at the new place, I always take pictures of food.
there the picture, it looks yummy, right? ........... :)

GERUND (GRAMMAR FOCUS)

Gerund is Verb + ing but it is not verb, it is noun.

CAUSATIVE (ENGLISH GRAMMAR)

causative is a sentence which shows a relationship between the subject and the objeck where the Subject causes the object to:

- do something (Active Caustaive)

- be done something (by Someone else - Passive Causative)

here is the formula:

I. ACTIVE CAUSATIVE

 1. S + HAVE / MAKE + ACTIVE OBJECT + V-1 (WITHOUT S/ES)

Example : 

- They made me clean the floor (I clean the floor for them)

- the teacher had the students do their homework yesterday. (the students did their homework because the teacher asked them)

2. S + GET/ASK + ACTIVE OBJECT + TO - V1

Example:

- we will ask our son to fix his bike (our son will fix his bike because we ask him to do it).

- she was getting me to sweep the floor. (I was sleeping the floor for her)

II. PASSIVE CAUSATIVE

S + HAVE / MAKE / GET / ASK + PASSIVE OBJECT + V-3

Example :

- mother is asking the fish cooked (the fish must be cooked because mother says so)

- my sister had her dresses made (my sister asked someone to make her dresses)

- John will make his car washed. (John will ask someone to wash his car)

NOTE:

pay Attention to the use of HAVE: 

1. have + noun (belong to) : I have a lot of money

2. have + to V1 (must) : I had to finish my job.

3. have + V-3/ Been (finish doing something) : she has called her parents.

4. have + noun + V1/ V3 (causative) : they have the man paint the house.
