NARRATIVE TEXT : THE GENERIC STRUCTURE AND THE EXAMPLE

The purpose of the text is to amuse or to entertain the reader with a story.

Types of this unit are:
- fable
- fairy tales.
- legend.
- myth, etc.

The Generic structure of the text are:
1. Orientation : introducing the characters of the story, the time and the place, the story happen (who/what, when and where)
2. Complication : a series of events in which the main character attempts to solve the problem.
3. Resolution : the ending of the story containing the problem solution.
4. Re- orientation : the conclusion.

Example :

The tittle : WHY DO THE MOON AND THE SUN NEVER APPEAR TOGETHER?

Orientation : Long, long ago, the Sun and the Moon lived happily together in the sky. They always appear together during the day and during the night.

Complication :One day, the Sun shone brightly so that it almost burned the Moon. The sunlight hurt the Moon's eyes very much. This made the Moon blind.

Complication : The Moon left the Sun although the Sun had asked an apology to the Moon.

Complication : The Sun loved the Moon very much, so he chased her. He chased and chased through the years and centuries but never caught the Moon until now.

Resolution : That's why the Sun shines during the day and at night the Moon appears. They will never unite again.
